Sai Ram!

It's peak winter time in Delhi but instead of the usual fog, it's Swami immeasurable love that descended on the capital this morning.

The Prema Jyoti exhibition, that show cases the Sai saga over the last seventy years, is now on, in the heart of the capital city, at the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts. The venue, with its expansive look, majestic interiors and tasteful decoration done by Sai sevaks creates the perfect ambiance to tell Delhiates the Divine story, the story of all encompassing love and matchless service to humanity.

The inauguration of this eleven day "Celebration of Love"  was done by the Lt.Governor of Delhi, Mr.Tejinder Khanna and he was visibly inspired by all that he saw on display. The Lt.Governor went through each one of the exhibits and it took him nearly two hours to make a complete round. And as he emerged out, the joy in his face was all too palpable.

The exhibition, spread out in two floors, depicts in great detail, Swami's early days as Avathar and his leelas, his mission of Love in the form of hospitals, water projects, the educational institutions and above all, his message to humanity.

The opening day was, in many ways, the day of the school children. These are children from some of the best schools in Delhi and their keenness and thirst for Swami's message is to be seen to be believed. No doubt, it is these little angels who are destined to take the task of the Avathaar to its logical conclusion.

In coming days, we would see many of the capital's bigwigs taking a peep into Swami's life and is all set to become the talk of the town. It's almost like Swami himself is on a visit to the capital.

Check out your mail every day and there would be more exciting news coming your way.

Sai Ram.

The day two saw a doubling of the number of visitors to the Prema Jyothi exhibition and the cold and chilly weather is no dampener to their spirits. After all, it's not every day one gets a chance to taste the nectarine sweetness of divine love. And the crowd relished it, every bite.

What's becoming noteworthy is the amazing variety of people who throng to the Prema Jyothi. The young, the old, the simple, the sophisticated, the labourer, the industrialist.... they all were there. And Swami, the common motivator, fills every heart with joy.

Today, the Doordarshan camera crew covered the exhibits and it is slated to be telecast during prime time sometime this week. So please watch out for this.

The Prema Jyothi continues to radiate divine love to the denizens of Delhi as it entered the third day today. The attendance was, as expected, low today but was cheering enough for a Monday.

One of the comments received from keen observers is about the thorough professionalism that has gone into the hosting of this marvellous exhibition. The entire activity is managed by the Seva Dal. No event managers hired, no media or PR company commissioned or there wasn't any exhibition organisers involved in any way. Yet, it receives kudos from all around for being one of the best ever done in this venue. This indeed is a compliment for the tireless efforts of the Seva Dal, not only of Delhi, but Seva Dal everywhere who do excellent job of whatever task they undertake.

The Prema Jyothi exhibition now in Delhi as come to signify different things to different categories of people. While it is all about Sai Baba's service activities to the casual onlooker, it seems to signify a deeper meaning to a more discerning audience. They see in these panels, an approach to life and to society that is vastly in variance to the mundane. For them, it offers an alternate thinking, that is based on compassion and concern, to solve many of the day's intractable problems.

But for HIS devotees, it's all a celebration of Swami's immeasurable love, love that flows incessantly to his devotees. They perceive the very presence of Bhagawan in these pictures and sure enough, they express their feelings through colourful rangolis and floral decorations of the exhibition venue. They have created an alter for Swami, complete with lamps, diyas, agarbathis and a beautiful chair for Swami to recline!  It is indeed a Shrine for them!

To coincide with the on-going exhibition, The Times of India today published an article written by Swami. In it Baba appeals to one and all to experience divinity through the medium of service.  Baba says "Divine grace can be conferred by rendering social service in a selfless manner. Every act of service, however small, is service to the Divine. Demonstrate this by reverential behaviour, selfless service and a life of integrity".

"Didn't you go upstairs to see the other part of the exhibition" I asked a visitor who was on her way out. I felt she wasn't fully done with all that was on display. "I couldn't" she replied "If I were to see more of these, I will not be able to hold back my tears". She definitely doesn't want to be seen weeping in public.

But can anyone diligently look at these pictures and videos and yet be dry eyed?  The compassion of the Lord, as these pictures depict, that has given a fresh lease of life to the most destitute and uncared for cannot but melt even the most stone hearted. Heart operations, complicated neuro surgeries, operations of the eyes and the kidney...all performed in thousands on patients, most of them would have faced a miserable end had it not been for the overwhelming love of the Lord.  They emerge from Swami's hospitals, healthy and cheerful, with a firm resolve to spread Bagawan's love of which they are the ample recipients. Their stories cast an indelible imprint on the visitors that leave their eyes moist.

Mid-way through the Prema Jyothi exhibition in Delhi and the crowds have really started to swell up. It has been a continous stream of visitors today and Seva Dal guides were literally on their feet throughout, at times explaining on the exhibits and at others answering queries about Swami and his Mission.

While the morning session saw hundreds of school children joyfully and with great discipline bask in the Divine light of Love, it was a group of Supreme court lawyers, about a hundred of them, who were the honoured visitors towards the end of the day. These lawyers, many of them seniors and well-reputed in their profession, were baptised into the world of Sai seva and were very thankful for the thrilling experience that this exhibition offers. As a momento, they were presented with a copy of "Finding God" written by Charles Penn.

One of the exhibits shows Swami sharing the dias with Chinmayananda. While, talking about Chinmayananda, Swami introduced him as a great exponent of the Bagavat Gita to which Chinmayananda quipped " I dont know if I am really a great exponent of the Gita, but I am sure that I am now in the midst of the Author of the Gita".

With more and more people from diverse walks of life coming in, it won't be an exaggeration to state that the week-long Prema Jyothi exhibition has now cast a magical spell of its own on the people of Delhi. Not just the sheer numbers, but the enthusiasm and the exuberance, particularly among the children, are a sure indication of people falling to the love of Sai, nay, rising to the love of Sai.
In matters divine, there is never a fall. It is always a rise!

While talking about children who visit the exhibition, a mention about the Balvikas kids, who queue up at the venue in large numbers on a daily basis, will be most appropriate. These are kids coming from families across all social strata but they are all bound into a single large family. Like the flowers of different hues making up a beautiful garland, these little ones add variety and charm, their love for Swami being the one unifying factor.

There are hundreds of Balvikas centers functioning in and around Delhi and many of them cater to the children coming from the slums and other impoverished surroundings. For kids from these backgrounds, Balvikas is the one place where they taste true love and motherly affection. They look forward to each and every occasion to turn up, in their best dress, and partake in all the activites with great sincerity. They proudly pin Swami's pictures in their shirts, display the little gifts they receive, maybe a pen, in their pockets and always are well behaved. Their thirst for true love, which could be missing in their environs, finds fulfilment in Balvikas. And the Gurus, in turn, shower upon them unconditional love and instill in them a firm moral foundation. Every day, the Gurus bring these kids in batches to the exhibition and it is in these selfless and dedicated service one finds Swami's message in Action, "Your life is my message".

The activities of Sathya Sai Organisations world-wide have always been focussed on rendering selfless and loving service without any fanfare whatsoever. Yeomen services were undertaken and executed and very few in the vast world would come to know of it. There has never before been any attempt in the Sai organisations to publicise or to promote itself or Swami.

The inauguration of the first Super-Speciality hospital in Puttaparthy is a classic example of how Swami goes about in his task of unravelling his divine mission. There were no speeches made, no bonhomie of any kind or a celebration. The then Prime Minister just cut the ribbon and the first surgery went underway.

But in the course of the Avathaar, there comes a time when it becomes a part of his mission to let the world know about his Mahimas, Leelas and services to mankind thereby awakening the ones who are still in deep slumber. The Prema Jyothi exhibition, that now travels from city to city, is a divine design to propagate the news of the advent of the Avathaar and the task it has come to fulfill, namely Dharmastapana, that is the establishment and fostering of righteousness among all races.

The exhibits in the Prema Jyothi have been scrutinised and inaugurated by Swami himself thus affixing his stamp of approval on all that is on display. With the stage now set for the Sai mission to move on to a higher plain and with the number of followers expected to grow exponentially, the purpose of this exhibition is well defined.

Prema Jyothi in Delhi- Day 9

Sai Ram!

Breathtaking as it is the visual impact of this exhibition, equally stunning are the eloquent and graphic narrations of the exhibits by the gifted guides who are Seva Dals apt to multi-tasking. Done with passion and involvement, the guides bring to life, the story and event behind each panel and thus fully engage the visitors to this Sai voyage.

When they talk about the initial years of Swami, their commentary literally transports one to those early times when Puttaparthi was a tiny hamlet, devoid of any trace of development but tranquil and serene as against the bustling city that it now is. When the guide takes you through the various places Swami visited, the detailed verbal commentary is so pictorial that it leaves one with a feeling that guide would herself have been a part of the Swami's entourage. And on Swami's educational institutions, the compelling description of the guide creates a thirst among the young to be part of this wholesome education. They liven up their narrations with profound quotes of Swami and incidents from his life to drive home the message of the exhibits. While doing all these, the guides encourage the visitors to come out with their thoughts and to put forth questions thus making it an interactive experience rather than a dull monologue.

Swami makes the best choice of his messengers and these guides are definitely the chosen ones.

It's exactly three years now since the killer Tsunami lashed on to the shores of the Indian sub-continent killing, in its fury, thousands of people and leaving behind a trail of destruction of mammoth proportion. It was a catastrophe that demanded all out efforts from every quarter to provide relief and succour to the devastated people.

Rising to the occasion, the Seva Dals of Sathya Sai Organisation swung into action and what followed was a Tsunami of a different kind- of love expressed through selfless service. First, the Seva Dals, went about with the task of disposing the highly decomposed dead bodies, an act even the government agencies were reluctant to undertake. After taking a tetanus shot, they fanned out all over the place locating and extricating stinking bodies and arranging for their cremation. This was followed by intense service activities, spread over a considerable period to time, of providing truck loads of food, medicine, clothing and other essential supplies. Glimpses of this unparalleled humanitarian effort were captured and they form a part of the Prema Jyothi exhibition. Some of these are included in today's picture section.

Prior to the this, Seva Dal volunteers were deeply involved in the rescue and relief operation in the aftermath of Gujarat earthquake. And Swami himself has deputed personnels to oversee the relief activities.

Anywhere in the world, it is Swami's devotees who are in the forefront to relieve pain and suffering whenever a disaster strikes and in all these it is HIS love that translates into service.

There were a few VIPs visits to the exhibition this week. While it was the Indian Home Minister Mr.Shivraj Patil who did the rounds yesterday, it was the turn of Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister for Power to turn up this afternoon.

The eleven-day Sai extravagenza in Delhi drew to a close today and as the curtains fell, the mood among the sevaks here was one of immense joy and satisfaction for having successfully hosted a remarkable event that touched many a heart and transformed a few. They offered their gratitude to the ever benevolent Lord for conferring this precious opportunity to be the messengers of Sai.

The Prema Jyothi evoked a wide assortment of emotions among the visitors:
While some were thrilled, a few others were humbled. Many were impressed and many more motivated. And for the devoted, it was a strengthening of the faith and firming up the resolve to tread the Sai path, the royal road to divinity.

But the journey of the Prema Jyothi carries on. It's now headed to Baroda, in the state of Gujarat and from there to many more cities. It compels, as Kasturiji puts it "The sitting to stand, the standing to walk, the walking to march, the marching to reach and the reaching to merge!" Merge, indeed we need to, in the divine love of Sai.

The concluding day also had its quota of VIP visitors. Ms.Shiela Dixit, the Chief Minister of Delhi, made a whirlwind run through the exhibition and Ms.Ambika Soni, the Minister for State for Cultural Affairs enjoyed the exhibits and was very appreciative of Swami's work.
