Post Ashadi celebrations, running up to Guru Purnima,
traditional cultural offerings continue in Prasanthi Nilayam. Sitar maestro Pt
Prabir Bhattacharya coupled with famed Tablist Nishikant Barodekar presented a
stirring soulful musical evening playing it out exclusively for Bhagawan at the
Sanctum Sanctorum today herein
Prasanthi Nilayam.
Humility was at its peak when the renowned artist grabbed the mike, ahead of
his programme, speaking ‘direct’ to Bhagawan, pleading and praying to be present
and listen to the offering. Offering to play a piece in Raag Miyan ki Malhar,
an exclusive piece for Bhagawan, the Pandit began…and continued for an hour. An
appreciative capacity audience responded well bursting into rapturous applause
at intervals. Puttaparthi based Tabla player Nishikant Barodekar turned a deft
accompanist, changing tempo in tandem, making the concert quite live. Budding
Sitarist from Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music Sri Suryanarayan Murthy,
who is incidentally under Prabir Bhattacharya’s tutelage, accompanied the
maestro on Tanpura.
Pt Prabir Bhattacharya is a disciple of famous Pt Deepak Choudhury who in
turn is a disciple of world renowned Pt Ravishankar. Pt Prabir is also a
visiting faculty at Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music. He had the rare
blessing of playing in Bhagawan’s presence on two earlier occasions, in
Prasanthi Nilayam.
The artist along with his accompanists were felicitated at the end of the
programme. Bhajans continued and ended with Mangala Arathi at 1825 hrs.
