Musical Offering by Delhi NCR

26th Jan 2013 - When the whole nation is busy celebrating 64th Republic Day, devotees from Delhi & NCR (National Capital Region) presented a medley of devotional and patriotic songs at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet this evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam as part of their three day Parthi Yatra.

The programme commenced at 1700 hrs. with a brief introductory speech by Sri Jatinder Cheema, State President of SSSSO – Delhi & NCR. Offering rich gratitude to Bhagawan for the opportunity, Sri Cheema listed out some of the service projects undertaken by the Organisation, before inviting Sri Prasad Rao, IAS (Retd.), Secretary of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, to speak on the occasion of Republic Day.

Referring to the greater glory of Prasanthi Nilayam, being the centre of Sanathana Dharma, Sri Prasad Rao explained in brief the story of India becoming a Republic, 64 winters ago, on January 26, 1950. Sri Prasad Rao then continued with a reference to the 1950 Constitutional Declaration calling the nation Sovereign Socialist Democratic Secular Republic, explaining each term, stressing on the ‘real’ meaning referring to Bhagawan’s teachings. Sri Prasad Rao ended his speech exhorting fellow devotees to rededicate to make India strong and secular as per the original declaration at the time of becoming Republic.

Echoing Bhagawan’s teachings to let different faiths exist and let His glory be sung in different languages, youth from Delhi NCR then presented a musical offering, medley of devotional and patriotic songs, sung in different languages.

The youth began with propitiating Lord Ganesha with the song “Om Gam Ganapathaye Namaha…” followed by a Telugu version of Rabindranath Tagore’s composition. Next to come was a Qawwali that was followed by a Shabad from Holy Guru Granth Saheb, extolling the Oneness of Divinity. “Araj Suno Meri Sainath Ji…” followed next before a Bengali composition by Tagore, commemorating the Republic Day occasion. “Hey Giridhara Gopala…”, the beautiful Krishna bhajan, sanctified profusely by Bhagawan Himself singing the same on many an occasion, was the penultimate number, sung in Sai style, before the parting number, a supplication to bless them to live in Him forever…”Sai Dhey, Sai Dhey…Sai Dhey…” in Hindi.

Apt to the occasion, singing men wore white pyjama-kurtas, with green and red shawl adorning their neck, symbolising national tri-colour.

Even as India looked towards Delhi to salute the President of India on the National Republic Day, delegates from Delhi made a pilgrimage to Prasanthi Nilayam to pay homage to the President of the Heart, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. It was an extremely pleasant programme with a great compilation of popular songs in praise of Mother India and Mother Sai. The programme spread across all genres from Carnatic to Hindustani, from Light music to Qawwali and from Sufi to Patriotic.

The programme started with the celebrated patriotic number Vande Mataram but with a novel and original presentation. The Bhajan “Manasa Bhaja Re”, reminded us of Bhagawan’s first musical discourse, the Carnatic piece “Brahmam Okate” exalted the singularity of Divinity and the Qawwali “Tere Dar Pe Jo Bhi Aaye” filled our hearts with gratitude. The next song was a moving piece, ‘Kaise Jeeyun Mein Yun Tere Bin”, a song yearning for the end of separation.

The Meera Bhajan “Chakar Rakho ji” often performed by Bharat Ratna M. S. Subbulakshmi in the Divine presence was next followed by the patriotic number “Sare Jahan Se Acha” reminding us of the beauty and grandeur of Mother India. The famous sufi number “Dama Dam Mast Kalandar” on the ecstatic devotion of Allah’s favourite son was the pen-ultimate piece to be fittingly concluded by “Deewane Deewane Sai Ke Deewane”, a song mentioning how madly in love we are with our Lord, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

All the participants were honoured with clothes and Prasadam was distributed to the gathering. Being Thursday the day had an auspicious conclusion as the hall was filled with the sweet voice of Bhagawan singing “Govinda Hare, Gopala Hare”. Arati was offered at 1815hrs.

Music Concert by Delhi Youth – Men’s Wing

After the wonderful performance by the Mahila Wing yesterday, the men had a tough act to beat. So they countered popularity with originality, not with little success. The Programme titled “Sai Ke Deewane” was commenced with the song, “Sadgurune Maje Aashirwad Dila”.  The second song exhorted all to unite and sing his glory, “Aao Milkar Sai Ko Basale Dil Mein”. The next song was a life sketch of Bhagawan, “Suno Suno Bhai Ek Kahani”.

“Tere Daras Ko Tarase”, a song on the agony of seperation, “Maa Prana Daivam”, the bliss of the proximity of Mother Sai and “Soham Sai Aum”, a song describing how Sai is our very life were slow melodies. Even as the assembly were wafting in the melodies, “Khwabon Mein Sai Tu”, brought movement into the hall as everyone brought their hands together to keep pace with this fast number. The youth brought the curtains down on the programme with the famous Qawwali, “Nit Kair Manga”.
