THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When God assumes human form and is behind you, before you and beside you, speaking to you and moving with you, and allowing you to cultivate attachment of various kinds with Him, you do not recognise Him. We should not be misled into the belief that He is just human and nothing more. We generally forget the Truth. The Divine proclaims, "I am not a mass of flesh and blood; I am not a bundle of desires, which the mind is, I am not the heap of delusion which the imagination is; I am the Paramaathma (Supreme Soul), the Origin and the End." I am the urge within you, the knowledge that you seek as a result of the urge, of your own self.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
For the bird in mid-ocean, flying over the deep, blue waters, the only resting place is the mast of a ship sailing in those waters. In the same way, the Lord is the only refuge for the man who is tossed about in the stormy seas of this world. However far the bird may fly, it knows where it can find rest; that knowledge gives it confidence. The Name of the Lord is like that mast; remember it always, associate it with the Form and have that Form fixed in the mind's eye. It is a lamp shedding light in the recesses of your heart. Have the Name on the tongue and it will drive away the inner darkness as well as the outer.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
All that you see is the reflection of what is inside you. If you call a person bad, it is the bad in you being reflected in him. It has got nothing to do with him. Good and bad are but reflections of your inner being. Never consider them as separate from you. Good thoughts are the source of good vibrations. If your inner being is full of love, the same principle of love will find manifestation in your speech and actions. When you have sacred thoughts, you will become a divine person.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Bhakthi Yoga (the spiritual path of devotion) teaches people the path of Love - to love with a view to gain profit and to love all, as you love yourselves. No harm can come to you then. It will only spread joy and happiness to all. God is present in all beings as love. They all endeavour to merge their Love with the Ocean of Love that God is. Wherever Love is evident, take it that it is God’s own Love. God is the greatest Lover of mankind. Therefore, when anyone decides to serve man whom He loves, God showers Grace in plenty. When the human heart melts at the suffering of others and expands as a result of that sympathy, believe that God is present there. That is the sign of the validity of the path of devotion, the Bhakthi Yoga.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The sea of life (samsara), turbulent with the waves of joy and misery, can be crossed only by those who have an unflinching desire for the essence of bliss; the rest will be submerged. The capacity to overcome the qualities (gunas) of nature (prakriti) is not inherent in everyone; it comes to one with the grace of the Lord. And that grace is to be won by repetition of the divine name and meditation. This must first be clearly understood: it is impossible for everyone to control the tendencies of nature; the power is possessed only by those who have nature in their grip and whose commands nature obeys.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Just as soap is necessary to make this external body clean, repetition of the divine name, meditation, and remembrance (smarana) are needed to cleanse the interior mind. Just as food and drink are needed to keep the body strong, contemplation of the Lord and meditation on the Atma (Soul) are needed to strengthen the mind. Without this food and drink, the mind will just stumble this way and that. When the waves of desire agitate the waters of the mind, how can one see the base, the Atma? So, clean the mind with contemplation of the Lord. Feed it with meditation on the Atma. Only meditation and spiritual practice (sadhana) can clean the depths of the mind and give it strength. Without purity and strength, the Atma recedes into the distance and peace flees.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Some people object that Karma Yoga (the spiritual discipline of action) involves too much physical strain. They say “I sought only to do good to them, but they ignored my desire and tried to injure me.” Such disappointment makes one lose interest in activity. One wants to do good hoping to derive joy therefrom and distribute joy. When such joy does not arise, despair sets in. But the lesson that Karma Yoga teaches is—do the Karma, as Karma, for the sake of the Karma. Why does the Karma Yogi fill his hands with work? That is his real nature. He feels that he is happy, while doing work. That is all. He does not bargain for results. He is not urged by any calculation. He gives, but never receives. He knows no grief, no disappointment; for he has not hoped for any benefit.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
"Yoga" means “Union”. In India, where yoga is flowing in the veins of everyone since ages, people must strive for harmonious coexistence of many faiths and beliefs, which is the ideal type of Universal Religion. Those who can heroically put their faith into daily living can accomplish this “togetherness” in the human community. Togetherness or Union can be established between one’s outer behaviour and inner nature. The Sadhaka (aspirant for spiritual progress), intent on the path of Prema, must strive for Union between himself and the embodiment of Prema, namely, God.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The spiritual aspirant must not give way to any dispiritedness, despondency, or feeling of failure or doubt. The aspirant must be patient and bear events with fortitude. Hence, the aspirant must develop within himself enthusiasm, faith, and joy. Keeping the ultimate result of the effort constantly in view, the aspirant must boldly confront all difficulties and temptations. Since difficulties are but short-lived and weak, with a little patience, they can be overcome with ease. If the aspirant is not vigilant and patient, all the success achieved up to that point will melt away in an unguarded moment.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When people approach us, fanatical in their beliefs about God we must welcome them with a smile, eager and yearning, filled with devotion to God. When someone who is passionate about his work approaches us we must share with him our skill and strength and join with him in work. By this means it is possible to bring harmony between followers of various faiths and philosophic thoughts. It will bring together various schools of thought and belief. How wonderful it would be if this kind of harmony and harmonious co-operation becomes more prevalent. How happy the world would be if everyone comprehends that his/her viewpoint can at best be only the partial truth and that it requires the harmonious commingling of many other facets to arrive at the whole truth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Man suffers from two kinds of ills, physical and mental. One peculiar fact about these two types of illnesses is that cultivation of virtue cures both. An attitude of generosity, of fortitude in the presence of sorrow and loss, a spirit of enthusiasm to do good and to be of service to the best of one's capacity, these build up the mind as well as the body. The joy derived from service reacts on the body and makes you free from disease. Thus, the body and the mind are closely interrelated.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Those who assert that the Universe is real, but declare at the same time that the existence of God is but a dream, are only proving themselves ignorant. For when the effect, namely, the Cosmos is real, it must have a Cause, for how can there be an effect with no cause? God can be denied only when the Universe is denied. What now appears as the Cosmos is really God. This is the vision that the true aspirant (Sadhaka) will get when he succeeds in his endeavour. As a matter of fact, the Universe we experience is the dream. When we awake from the dream, the Truth of its being God will shine in the consciousness. From the beginning of time, the God whom we posit outside ourselves has been the reality inside us also. This Truth too will become steady with growing faith.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When you see faults in anyone, you must restrict your conclusions to that there are deficiencies in his/her behaviour - that is all. Do not conclude that there is no Divine Atma (soul) in them. As a result of the company they keep or the shortcomings of the society in which they grew such faults have taken root in them. They are not native to their nature, which is Atmic. Attempt to provide them with good company and conducive surroundings and persuade them to live therein. On no account should you condemn them and keep yourself aloof from them.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Every man aspires for happiness and wants to avoid sorrow. But in this world, truth and untruth, righteousness and unrighteousness, joy and sorrow pass and change with time. Man should have faith in the ultimate principle out of which both good and evil arise. True man is the one who treats pain and pleasure equally. You should trust the Divine and experience His love in your hearts. In this world, the gain from sorrow is more than that out of happiness. The saints and sages of yore, who have become immortal in history, aspired for hardships rather than happiness. The joy that arises out of overcoming hardships is more lasting than that gained from happiness. Hence, we should not be averse to sorrow nor should we look for happiness alone.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Consider how you dream in your sleep – dreams do not arise from somewhere outside you nor do the varied images and activities disappear into some place outside you. They arise in you and disappear into you. While dreaming, you consider the events and persons as real, and you experience as realistically as in the waking stage, the feelings of grief, delight, fear, anxiety, and joy. You do not dismiss them at the time as illusory. The Cosmos is the dream of God. It arises in Him and merges in Him. It is the product of His Mind. The cycles of birth and death are all fanciful weavings of Maya, illusory agitations and unreal appearances. Those who have experienced this highest wisdom can attain oneness with the Divine, here and now.

It is only when the mind is completely under control that man can grasp his real identity. Then all troubles and travails, doubts and dilemmas, come to an end. Man then overcomes sorrow, delusion and anxiety. He is established in the holy calmness of Shanti (peace). Spiritual life is not a matter of meaningless talk. It is an experience of pure Ananda (bliss).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
What is 'Moksha'? It is giving up of the 'Anatma', the unreal. Suppose you want a glass of fruit juice, unless you throw away the water already in the glass, you cannot pour juice in to the glass. Similarly, unless you give up worldly desires, 'Atmabhava' (spirituality) cannot take root in you. When you spend your hours immersed in thoughts about God, you become free from evil ways. You will not be tempted to abuse others or harm them in any way. You begin to live in Love, accepting all events as His gifts. Then your home verily becomes heaven on Earth; the joy that bubbles in your heart is the symbol of Vaikunta (abode of Lord Vishnu); the earnestness and care that you evince in your work will symbolise Kailasa (the abode of Lord Shiva)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
If you follow truth right from this very day, you will certainly become an ideal to the entire country. What is truth? God's word is truth. Hence, when you speak and act with the feeling Sarva Karma Bhagavad Preetyartham (perform all actions to please God), everything you say or do will manifest as truth. Every thought and feeling emanating from you is a reflection of your inner truth. Unfortunately it gets converted into falsehood by improper use of the tongue. The tongue is one of the five senses. The senses are the cause of changes in us. They are responsible for the sin or the merit that we earn. Himsa (Violence) is not just limited to harming or hurting others-in fact acting contrary to one's words is also Himsa. Remember this always: Verily, there can be no greater Ahimsa (Non-violence) than using our tongue in a sacred manner.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Sathya (Truth) and Dharma (Right Conduct) are the two main teachings of Rama. Do not consider yourself as a mere human being. Develop full faith that you are none other than the Divine! The very same Atma that pervades the entire universe took a form and incarnated as Rama. You should take Sathya (Truth) as your very basis. You must sustain and promote Dharma (righteousness). Dharma is not confined to any particular place or country; it is present in all. It is born out of Sathya. What is Dharma? Dharayati iti Dharma (that which sustains is Dharma). Some people wrongly limit Dharma to mere feeding of the poor or acts of charity. Dharma should flow from your own heart. Then, it should be put into practice. Do as you say. That is your foremost duty. On the other hand, if you happen to say one thing and do something contrary to it, know that it connotes Adharma (unrighteousness). There should be perfect harmony between your thoughts, words and actions.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Be it a millionaire or a pauper, everyone takes refuge in the Divine Name, in times of difficulties. Many sages in the past performed penance and undertook several kinds of vows to spread the glory of the Divine Name in this world. Lord Rama never told anybody to chant His Name or contemplate it. Rama, in fact, declared that all are the embodiments of Divinity. The foremost teaching of Rama was that everyone should follow Truth. Rama practised truth, all through his life and achieved unity in thought, word and deed. Hence, even to this day, people, young and old, chant the sacred name of the Lord, Rama, with great devotion.

the

THOUGHT FOR
THE DAY
A good
character is
essential
for the
realization
of the Atma.
In other
words, all
evil
propensities
have to be
uprooted.
Just as the
army becomes
dispirited
and
surrenders
when the
commander
falls, so
too, the
army of evil
qualities
will
surrender
its arms as
soon as
Ahamkara
(egotism) is
destroyed.
The evil
qualities
are all
natives of
the realm of
anger, so if
that region
is
destroyed,
the soldiers
can never
again raise
their heads.
It is enough
to
accomplish
this alone,
for what can
commander
Egotism
achieve
without a
single
soldier to
march under
his orders?
So, all
efforts must
be directed
to destroy
the realm of
anger so
that no
commander
can venture
to let loose
the hounds
of war. Let
each
spiritual
aspirant
preserve the
region of
his mind in
peace, by
putting a
stop to the
rise of this
commander
and his
soldiers.
Let each
spiritual
aspirant
bask forever
under the
smile of the
ruler, the
Atma.

THOUGHT FOR THE
DAY
Mere words are
not enough when
you pray. You
should offer
your heart to
God in prayer.
Great souls
offer their
hearts to God in
prayer. In
Mahabharatha,
Draupadi, the
wife of Pandavas,
always prayed
thus: "Dear
Lord, I worship
you day and
night. Please be
compassionate
and protect me.
If you are
compassionate
towards me I
will not be
bothered about
any challenges
or ordeals that
I may have to
face." True to
her prayer, she
always received
God's protection
and overcame
innumerable
troubles that
she had to face
in her life. Her
devotion to Lord
Krishna remained
unaffected
despite facing
many challenges
and ordeals in
her life. Some
may pray to Lord
Rama, others may
pray to Lord
Krishna. Names
and forms are
many, but
Divinity is one.
Atma is the
nameless
formless
Divinity.

People lose courage at

There is no need to use any

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
What is the significance of the
statement: God is the Upadanakarana
(the proximate cause of the Cosmos)?
‘Proximate cause’ means the cause
that produced the effect. The
‘effect’ is the ‘cause’ in another
form. It cannot be separate from the
cause. Every effect that we notice
is but the cause that has assumed a
new form. The Cosmos is the effect,
God is the cause — these statements
only stress the fact that the Cosmos
is but God in another form. It may
be doubted whether all this
multiplicity of things and beings
are really God? Yes! That is the
truth. All these that the senses
cognize, all that come into the
awareness, are God. There is nothing
else but He. Our bodies, minds,
intellects, consciousness—all are
God's.

Then, you can experience peace and love. Everyone should perform their duties meticulously and adhere to Dharma (code of conduct). Even an ant follows its Dharma. Wherever it finds food, it carries to its place and consumes it. It does not harm anybody, nor does it steal anything from anybody. All the birds and animals follow their natural Dharma and conduct themselves accordingly. The path of Dharma is fundamental for all, right from a Cheema (Ant) and Brahma (Creator).
